1/2 cup dark syrup
1/2 cup light molasses
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup oleo
1/2 cup Crisco
1 egg
2 tbsp heavy cream
2 tsp soda
1/2 tsp cardamon seed
1 tsp cloves
1 tsp ginger
pinch of salt
6 cups flour

Directions:
Directions:
Cook in heavy kettle the dark syrup, molasses and sugar until boiling; skim off the foam and discard it. The add oleo, Crisco and beat until sort of cool. The add egg, cream, soda ans spices with 3 cups flour; beat with electric mixer until well blended, knead in remaining flour with hands. Chill overnight. Break off small portions of dough, roll out on floured board to a pencil-like snake like shape, cut in 1/2" pieces with floured knife and place on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350º for 154 to 20 minuts, cool.
