2 cups sugar
1 bottle corn syrup, (12 cups)
1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla
1/4 lb butter
1 can carnation milk
nuts if desired (1 cup)

Directions:
Directions:
Mix sugar, syrup, salt, butter in a kettle. Cook until clear and thick (cracks in cold water). Add evaporated milk slowly, stirring constantly. Cook until mixture is as hard in cold water as you desire the finish caramels. Add vanilla and nuts and pour in buttered pan. When hard remove from pan into board and cut in squares and wrap in waxed paper.
