2 eggs
1/2 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. vinegar
1 tsp. vanilla
2 tsp. cocoa
1 tsp. salt
2 oz. red food coloring
1 c. buttermilk
2 1/4 c. cake flour
FROSTING:
(cook on stovetop)
1 c. milk
1 c. sugar
3 Tbsp. flour
Mix together:
1 c. powdered sugar
1 c. butter
1 tsp. vanilla
red food coloring




Directions:
Directions:
Mix sugar,shortening,and eggs together. Add buttermilk and then add flour and rest of ingredients. Make a paste with the cocoa and the red food coloring. Mix soda and vinegar in small bowl, then add to mixture. Beat altogether.
Bake @ 350º for 20 to 30 minutes.

FROSTING:
(cook on stovetop)
Bring the milk,sugar,and flour to a boil to thicken. Let cool before adding the powdered sugar,butter and vanilla. (If you let it cool it mixes up a lot better)
Frost the cake when icing is cool, and store in refrigerator.

This is Kevin's favorite dessert, and it is fun to make around valentines. I usually bake it in two round pans.
