½ c butter
1 cup packed brown sugar
2 eggs
½ tsp cinnamon
½ tsp nutmeg
1 tsp vanilla extract
½ tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
1 ½ cups flour
3 cups diced tart apples (Jonagolds are best, but Goldens work great, as do Grannies or Braeburns)
1/2 cup chopped nuts
2 tbsp lemon juice
¼ tsp lemon zest

preheat oven to 350

Cream wet ingredients, add dry, fold in nuts and apples and place in greased 9” square baking pan.

Bake at 40-50 minutes

Serve warm or cold, with a dollop of whipped cream
