1/4 cup butter
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg
1/3 cup molasses
1 tsp. vanilla, cinnamon, and salt
1 cup flour
1/2 cup boiling water in which 1 tsp. baking soda has been dissolved.

Directions:
Directions:
Pre heat oven to 350º Grease 9x9 inch pan.
Cream butter, and sugar. Add egg, molasses, vanilla, cinnamon., salt and flour. Mix well. Dissolve b. soda in boiling water, stir into batter. Batter will be thin. Bake until cake springs back to touch.
Double for a 9x13 in pan.
Serve warm or cold with whipped cream or ice cream.

This is a recipe I used to watch Jeff's great grandmother make. She would use a pinch of this and a handful of that. Getting her to write it down for me was difficult!
