1 egg
1½ cup buttermilk
½ cup melted shortening
1/3 cup stone ground cornmeal
1/3 cup all purpose flour
1 heaping tsp salt
1 tbsp sugar
½ tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
½ cup to 1 cup of cracklins

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 400. Melt shortening in cast iron skillet. Mix egg and buttermilk in separate bowl with whisk. Add all other ingredients except shortening. Mix well. Add about half the shortening to the mixture, and then return mixture to skillet. Bake at 400 for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
