1 cup brown sugar
1 cup white sugar
2 cups shortening
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
2 teaspoons baking soda
2 teaspoons vanilla
1/2 teaspoon salt
4 cups flour
2 eggs

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening. Add sugars, vanilla, and eggs one at a time beating after each. Add dry ingredients which have been sifted together, a little at a time. Form into balls. Dip top in sugar. Place on greased cookie sheet. Flatten with fork. Bake at 350º for 9-10 minutes.
