2 1/4 c flour
1 t baking soda
1 t baking powder
1 1/2 c sugar
2/3 c shortening or butter
3 eggs
1 1/4 t vanilla
1/4 t salt
1/2 c cocoa
1 c water or beer
1/2 to 2/3 c sauerdraut, chopped and rinsed and drained

Directions:
Directions:
Cream together sugar and shortening. Add eggs, mix well, then add vanilla, salt and cocoa. Sift together flour, baking soda, and baking powder.
Alternanting, add flour mixture and water. Fold in kraut by hand.
Bake at 375 for 35-45 minutes. Will make one 9x13 or 2 layer cake.
