1/2 c. butter
3/4 c. sugar
1 egg
2 squares chocolate, melted
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 3/4 c. sifted flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
3/4 c. chopped nuts

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs and beat until light. Add
sifted dry ingredients, mix well. Stir in nuts. Shape in a log
roll about 2 inches in diameter on waxed paper. Roll up and
chill overnight. Cut into thin slices and bake at 350º for 10
minutes.

Mom never specified what kind of
chocolate. I always use unsweetened chocolate, which give
the cookies a bittersweet dark chocolate taste. You might
want to try semi-sweet chocolate for a sweeter cookie.
