1 cup sugar
3/4 cup shortening
2 eggs, beaten
2 cups flour
2 tablespoons cocoa
1 cup chopped dates
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 1/4 cup boiling water
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
Topping:
1 package semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup chopped nuts
Directions:
Directions:
Mix chopped dates with baking soda and boiling water. Set
aside, and let stand. In a large mixing bowl, cream shortening
and sugar. Add eggs, flour and cocoa with date mixture and mix.
Pour into a 9x13 greased baking pan. Sprinkle with chocolate
chips, sugar, and nuts. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes.
