1/2 C shortening
1 1/2 C sugar
3 large eggs
3 1/4 C sifted flour
3/4 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
3/4 C chopped nuts
1/4 C buttermilk or water
1 C mashed bananas (4 bananas)

Butter Frosting:
1 box powdered sugar
1 stick butter
1 tsp. vanilla
1/4 tsp. salt
1 egg yolk (to keep frosting soft)

Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs and mix. Sift dry ingredients together and add alternately with buttermilk (or water.) Add nuts and mashed bananas. Bake in 9x13 inch pan for 32-45 minutes at 350. Or if baked in layers, 25-30 minutes. When cooled, frost with well mixed butter frosting until fluffy.
