Filling:
1 lb. chopped dates
1/2 c water
1/2 c sugar
1 c nuts

Cookies:
1/2 c butter
1/2 c brown sugar
1/2 c sugar
1 egg
1/2 tsp vanilla
2 c flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp soda

Directions:
Directions:
Combine filling ingredients (not nuts) in a saucepan and cook until thick (2-3 min), stirring constantly. Cool. Add nuts

Cream butter and sugars, add eggs and vanilla and beat well. Add dry ingredients and mix well. Chill.

Divide dough in half. Roll out one part on lightly floured surface until 1/4" thick.

Spread 1/2 of date mixture over dough and roll like jelly roll. Repeat on second half.

Chill until firm. Cut 1/4" slices and place on lightly greased sheet. Bake at 400º for 8-10 minutes.
