1 med. head red cabbage
1 med. onion
2 large apples
1T bacon fat
1 tsp salt
1 cup vinegar
1 bay leaf
1 T allspice
1 T ground cloves
fresh ground pepper
1-1/2 cup water
1/2 cup sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Core and slice cabbage. Core, peel and slice apples. Peel onions and slice.
Add all ingredients and simmer 1-1/2 hours in covered pan. Thicken slightly with cornstarch and water

One of the best and easiest cabbage receipes that I have tried. Goes well with Sauerbraten.
