6 Lbs Beets Sliced thin
6 lbs sugar
1 cake of yeast
1 cup raisins

Directions:
Directions:
Put beets in pot with 2 gallons water. Boil until beets are well bled out. Strain. Add sugar and stir well until dissolved. Add yest and raisins. Let stand for 15 days - then siphon off into bottles. Do not seal until is is through working.

This recipe came from Mel Smith. Mel lived next door to John, Michael and I when we first moved back to Montana. Mel was also Ross's first cousin from his mom's side of the family.
Mel was a very colorful character, who had many tales to tell. He had lived his whole life in SW Montana and knew the country like the back of his hand.
