"I have long believed that good food, good eating is all about risk. Whether we're talking about unpasteurized Stilton, raw oysters or working for organized crime 'associates,' food, for me, has always been an adventure."--Anthony Bourdain

Ingredients:
Ingredients:
14 oz. caramels
1/3 cup evaporated milk (I use skim milk)
1 pkg. Swiss (or German) chocolate cake mix
1/3 cup evaporated milk (I use skim milk)
3/4 cup butter, melted (I use 1/2 cup)
1 cup chocolate chips
1 cup nuts

Directions:
Directions:
Melt caramels and 1/3 cup milk together in microwave on about 70% power for 1 1/2 minutes. Stir and melt a little longer until smooth. Mix together cake mix, 1/3 cup milk, and butter. Put 1/2 in 9 x 13 greased pan. Bake at 350 degrees 6 to 8 minutes. Cool 2 minutes. Spread caramel mixture over top. Sprinkle chocolate chips over caramel. Add 1/2 cup nuts to 2nd half of cake mixture and drop by spoonfuls over caramel and chocolate chips. Sprinkle another 1/2 cup nuts over top. Bake 18 minutes at 350 degrees.

It is done after the l8 minutes but it will not be set as the caramel is so hot. As it cools, it will set up so don't cook any longer.

Also, I don't use a whole cup of walnuts--maybe l/2 to 2/3 cup. These freeze well.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
Tom loves these brownies. He asks (or tells!) Diane at work to make them for his birthday every year and she does! Now Mary and her friends are crazy over these. I made them many times for them during their get togethers in High School.
