1 c. margarine or butter
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 c. dates, pitted and chopped
1 c. warm water
1 tsp soda
1 3/4 c. flour
1/2 tsp salt
2 Tbsp cocoa
1 tsp vanilla
chocolate chips
chopped nuts
powdered sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Cream the butter, sugar and eggs. Combine chopped dates and warm water. Let stand until soft. Just before adding to cake mixture add soda.

Combine flour, salt and cocoa and add to creamed mixture. Add date mixture. Beat well. Add vanilla and beat again.

Pour into greased and floured 9x13 pan. Cover with chocolate chips and chopped nuts. Bake at 350º for 45 minutes. Sift powdered sugar on top when cool.
