Ingredients:
Ingredients:
6 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp. salt
6 tsp. baking powder
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 sticks butter - room temperature
3 tbsp. anise seed - heaping
1/2 tsp. anise extract
6 eggs

Directions:
Directions:
Combine flour, salt and baking powder in a bowl. In a separate bowl, mix the sugar, vanilla, butter, anise seed and the anise extract. Mix well for about 5 minutes. Add the 6 eggs, one at a time. Beat in the flour mixture slowly. Mix for about 2 - 3 more minutes. It time allows, refrigerate the batter for about 1 hour (I never do this!). Split the batter into 6 portions and roll into loaves. Loaves are the length of cookie sheet and about the size of a plum tomato. Flatten to about 3/4". Place the loaves on 2 greased cookie sheets. Bake at 375º for 25 minutes, switching the pans between shelves after 12 minutes so they cook evenly. Cool for 20 minutes. Slice the loaves on an angle into about 1 inch thickness. Then return the cookies to the cookie sheets and bake at 425° for about 12 to 15 minutes more until golden color.
