1 cup brown sugar (packed)
1/4 cup cornstarch
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup water
1 2/3 cups milk
3 egg yolks, slightly beaten
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
Baked 9-inch pie shell
Sweetened whipped cream
Toasted nuts, if desired

Directions:

Mix in saucepan brown sugar, cornstarch and salt.
Stir in gradually water and milk. Cook over med. heat, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens and boils. Boil one minute. Remove from heat. Gradually stir at least half of hot mixture into egg yolks, slightly beaten. Then blend into hot mixture in saucepan. Boil 1 min. more, stirring constantly. Remove from heat. Blend in vanilla.
Pour immediately into baked pie shell. Chill pie thoroughly (2 hr.) and top with sweetened whipped cream. Decorate with toasted nuts if desired.
