Filling:
1/2 pound dates
1/2 c water
1/4 c sugar
1 c nuts

Dough:
1 stick margarine
1/2 c brown sugar
1/2 c sugar
1 egg
2 c flour
2 t baking soda
1/4 t.salt
1 t vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Cook filling over low heat. Stir to form paste and cool. Add nuts.

Cream butter with sugars. Add egg, then dry ingredients. Divide dough in 2 parts. Roll out to 1/8" thick. Spread on date mix and roll up. Chill. Slice cookies 1/2" thick.

Bake on a greased pan at 350º until medium brown.
