2 cups flour
2 teaspoons sugar
4 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 teaspoon salt
2/3 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar

Directions:
Directions:
Sift together dry ingredients and cut in shortening with a pastry cutter. Add milk all at once and stir together. Knead gently on lightly floured counter top. Pat out dough (3/4 inch thick) and cut out biscuits. Place on greased baking sheet. Bake at 450° on second oven rack for 8-10 minutes.
