Here is a tip for preparing your Thanksgiving turkey.

For a 12 to 14 lb. turkey, dissolve 1 cup of salt in 2 gallons of water (brine).

Place the turkey in a stockpot just large enough for the turkey and cover with the brine.

Refrigerate for 4 to 6 hours.

Drain and cook the turkey using your favorite method.

If you do not have enough room in your refrigerator, dissolve the salt in 1 gallon of water and add ice to make 2 gallons.

Put turkey in an ice chest just large enough for the turkey and cover with the brine.

Make sure the water stays between 35 and 40 degrees F during the whole time it is soaking.
