1-1/2 c sugar
3/4 c shortening
2 eggs
3/4 c molasses
4 tsp soda dissolved in a little hot water
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp salt
1 scant tsp ginger
4 c flour
A dash or pinch of black pepper.

Directions:
Directions:
Cream sugar and shortening. Add eggs, then molasses and beat well. Sift flour, salt, cinnamon and ginger together. Add to sugar-shortening mixture and then add pepper.
Chill dough. Roll in balls and then in some granulated sugar. Bake at 350-degrees for 10 minutes. Do not overbake!!!
