1 medium onion, diced (about 1/2 cup)
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/4 cup butter
1 T. olive oil
1/2 pound ground beef
1/2 pound ground pork
1/2 pound ground veal
1/2 green pepper, chopped
1/2 pound mushrooms, chopped
2 6-ounce cans tomato paste
1 28-ounce can stewed Italian tomatoes
1 1/2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
1 1/2 tsp. angostura bitters
1 T. sugar
1/2 c. dry red wine
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. freshly ground black pepper
1/2 tsp. celery salt
2 bay leaves
dash of cayenne pepper
1 pound spaghetti, cooked al dente and drained
freshly grated Parmesan cheese

In large, heavy kettle, sauté onion and garlic in butter and oil until transparent. Add beef, pork and veal, and brown over medium heat. Add green pepper, mushrooms, tomato paste, tomatoes, Worcestershire, bitters, sugar, wine, salt, pepper, celery salt, bay leaves and cayenne pepper. Simmer over low heat for 3 hours. Divide warm spaghetti among warmed individual plates and top with sauce. Sprinkle with Parmesan and serve immediately.
