"Plain fresh bread, its crust shatteringly crisp. Sweet cold butter. There is magic in the way they come together in your mouth to make a single perfect bite."--Ruth Reichl

Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1 German Chocolate Cake Mix
1 Stick Oleo
Bag of Kraft Caramels
1 Can (14 oz) Eagle Brand Sweetened Condensed Milk
12 oz Pecans Chopped (opt.)
6 oz. Chocolate Chips

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º
Grease and flour 9x13 cake pan
Prior to mixing cake mix, melt oleo, then add caramels and condensed milk. This can be done either in a microwave or double broiler. It will be a nice creamy mixture. Set aside to cool until it is lukewarm. Mix up cake according to package directions. Pour half into prepared cake pan. Bake for 15 minutes or until done. Pour caramel mixture over top. Add 4 (oz.) of nuts if desired at this time. Pour remaining half of cake batter over this, smoothing with a spatula very gently so caramel mixture doesn't come to top. Sprinkle batter then with chocolate chips and remaining nuts. Return to oven to finish baking. 15 to 20 minutes. Cake is done when it pulls away from side of pan and looks done. Can be served plain or with whipped cream.
