1/2 cup shortening
1/4 cup warm water
1/3 cup sugar
2 tablespoons grated orange peel
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup orange juice
1 cup scalded milk
Icing:
5-5 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon grated orange peel
2 beaten eggs
2 tablespoons orange juice
1 tablespoon yeast
1 cup powdered sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening, sugar and salt in a large mixing bowl then add milk; mix and cool. Stir in 2 cups of flour; beat well. Add eggs; mix well. Stir in yeast, water, orange peel, juice and enough flour to make a soft dough. Cover and let rest for 10 minutes. Knead dough 8-10 minutes till smooth and elastic. Place in lightly greased bowl, turning once to grease the surface. Cover and let rise until double (2 hours). Punch down; cover and let rest 10 minutes. Roll into a 18"x10" rectangle, 1/2" thick. Cut strips 10" long and 3/4" wide. Roll each strip and tie loosely in a knot. Arrange on greased baking sheet and tuck ends under. Cover; let rise 45 minutes. Bake at 400º for 12 minutes. Cool and ice. Makes 24.
