Layer the following ingredients in a large (14 inch pyrex dish) container:

1 head of lettuce, shredded
1 cup diced celery
4 hard cooked eggs, sliced
1 10 oz package frozen peas
1/2 cup diced green pepper
1 large purple onion, diced
8 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled

2 cups mayonnaise
2 Tbsp sugar
1 cup grated Sharp Cheddar cheese

Layer the first ingredients in dish. Blend mayo and sugar and spread this over the top of the dish to seal in the flavors. Sprinkle on the grated cheese. This is best if made the day before, covered, and left in the refrigerator to chill. You can stir the mixture before serving or leave in layers.
