2 tsp dry yeast
1/2 cup warm water
1/4 tsp salt
1 heaping tsp baking powder
1 cup all-purpose flour
2 cups oil ( for frying)

Directions:
Directions:
Dissolve yeast in warm water set aside. Sift together salt, baking powder and flour. In a bowl, mix together flour mixture and yeast. If mixture is too dry, add a little more warm water until dough comes together. Cover dough and let rise for about 30 minutes. On floured surface, knead dough until able to roll out. Cut into (2x4-inch) pieces. Heat oil until hot. Fry until golden brown on both sides. Drain on paper towels. Serve with powdered sugar or cane syrup. Serves 2
