2 c. salt
1 c. flour
1-2/3 c. water
1 tbsp. powdered alum (speeds drying)

Directions:
Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture is very thick. Cool slightly; spread over item to be covered (like for social studies projects). Let air dry or bake in a 200º oven for 1-2 hours.

For stiffer molding mixture to make object stand without support, increase flour to 2 cups. Proceed as above. Use this to make free-standing animal shapes.
