1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup butter or margarine
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
2 cups flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cream of tarter
1/2 cup chopped nuts
sugar for rolling cookies

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º.

Cream shortening, sugars and the butter until smooth. Stir in the egg and vanilla. Sift together the flour, baking soda and cream of tarter. Stir in sugar mixture.

Roll dough into walnut sized balls. Roll the ball in the chopped nuts, then the sugar.

Place on an ungreased cookie sheet and bake for 12 to14 minutes or until cookies are light brown.

These are a crispy cookie. You can also add 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa to this recipe. It makes them taste like brownie cookies.
