2 cups sugar
1 cup butter, melted
4 Tbs anise seed
4 Tbs anise flavored liquor
3 Tbs bourbon, or 2 tsp vanilla and 2 Tbs water
2 cups coarsely chopped almonds or walnuts
6 eggs
5 ½ cups flour
1 Tbs baking powder

Directions:

Mix dough, Chill. On a lightly floured board, shape into loaves ½ inch thick and 2 inches wide. Bake two on a cookie sheet, well apart. 375 for 20 minutes

Remove from oven, let cool until you can touch them. Cut in diagonal slices ½ to ¾ inch thick. Lay cookies on cut sides close together and return to oven. 375 for 15 minutes more or until lightly toasted. Cool. Store in air tight containers.
