1 large pkg. of chopped dates
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. water
1/2 c. walnuts (chopped)
Dough:
2 c. brown sugar (light)
1 c. shortening
3 eggs
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
pinch of salt
1 tsp. baking powder
4 c. flour
1 c. powdered sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Filling: Place dates, sugar and water in small saucepan. Heat at low temperature until thick and smooth. Let cool and add walnuts.
Dough: Mix ingredients well, divide into 3 parts. Roll to 1/4” thickness. Spread with filling, roll jellyroll fashion, wrap in waxed paper or plastic wrap. Freeze.
Bake: While frozen, cut in 1/4” slices and put on baking sheet. Bake in 350º oven for 10 minutes. When brown, remove from oven and pan and dust with powdered sugar.
