Trim and cut steak in 3” x 4” pieces, sprinkle with salt, pepper, and just a dash of nutmeg. Place 1 slice of bacon and 1 slice of onion on 1 section of round steak and roll and secure with a toothpick. After all are rolled, brown in pan on both sides. Remove any grease and return steak to pan. Cover with broth and water if necessary, bring liquid to a boil. Reduce heat to a simmer and cook for 1 hour. Remove steak and add flour thickening for gravy (approx. ½ c. water to 3 T. flour). The pickles are optional, you may add about ½ c. of pickles and about ½ c. of the juice from pickles halfway through cooking process.
