3/4 c chopped nuts
1 c chopped dates
1 1/2 t soda
1/2 t salt
1/4 c shortening
3/4 c boiling water
2 eggs, beaten
1/2 t vanilla
1 c sugar
1 1/2 c flour

Directions:
Directions:
Combine in a bowl-nuts, dates, soda, salt then add shortening, water already mixed together. Allow to stand 15 minutes. Stir to blend. Add eggs, vanilla, sugar. Mix. Add flour. Do not overmix. Bake in cans or pans. Do no overfill.
