1/2 c shortening
1 c sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp backing soda
2 tsp boiling water
2 c flour
2 c chopped apple
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp salt

2 tbsp butter
2 tbsp flour
2 tbsp sugar
1 tsp cinnamon

Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs. Add baking soda dissolved in boiling water. Add flour, apples, nuts, vanilla, and salt. Place in large loaf pan. Mix topping ingredients and sprinkle on loaf. Bake at 350 for 1 hour, or until done.
