4 c. sugar
1 lg can evaporated milk
1/2 c. hot water
1 t. vanilla
1/3 c. cocoa
1/2 cup white Karo syrup
2 sticks oleo
4 c. nuts (pecan) - less if desired
Directions:
Directions:
Combine sugar and cocoa in heavy saucepan. Add evaporated milk and mix well. Combine Karo syrup and hot water, mix well and add to mixture. Cook over medium heat using candy thermometer to soft ball stage. Remove from heat and add oleo. Cool to approximately 125º. Using large cooking spoon beat until mixture becomes thick and coloring changes to dull light brown. Pour into buttered container and cut into squares.
