1/2 c. shortening
2/3 c. sugar
1 egg
1-1/2 c. sifted flour
1/2 t. soda
1/2 t. baking powder
1/2 t. salt
dash grated nutmeg

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening, add sugar gradually and beat until light and fluffy. Add egg and vanilla and continue beating until blended. Add sifted dry ingredients, mixing well. The dough should be stiff enough to handle. Roll into 1/2 or 1-inch balls, then roll in granulated sugar. Place on a greased cookie sheet and flatten with a fork. Bake about 10 minutes in a 400º oven. They will be crunchy when cold.
