2 pounds gumdrops
1 c sugar
1 c butter
2 eggs, well beaten
1 1/2 c sweetened applesauce
1 t cinnamon
1 t cloves
1 pound golden raisins
1 1/2 c nut meats
1 t soda, dissolved in 1 t hot water
1 t salt
4 c flour

Directions:
Directions:
Cream the butter and sugar. Add 2 c flour, seasonings, eggs, applesauce and soda. Sift 2 c flour over the fruit, nuts, and gumdrops and add to creamed mixture. Bake at 350 degrees for 2 hours in large pan or 1 hour if two small pans are used.

At top of recipe: A slice of gumdrop cake has the rich holiday appearance of a fruit cake but is much less expensive and less tedious in preparation. Omit black gumdrops unless you expect your cake to be very dark. Cut gumdrops into fingertip pieces (I use kitchen shears). Do not chop or grind them.
