1 cup of yellow plain cornmeal
1 good pinch of salt
water
butter

Directions:

Sift a cup of meal into which a good pinch of salt has been added. Add as much water as the meal will take up, a little at a time without being runny. Shape by hand in to flat little rounds like a biscuits. Grease a pan and spread a little butter on top of pone. Cook in a 400 degree oven until firm but not hard.

Your Great Grandmother Hanff's cook Liza used to cook this on a wood stove and this cornbread was your Grandmother Bonner's favorite. I use Liza's recipe also from time to time and Walker and I like it.
