Ingredients:
Ingredients:
3 c all-purpose flour
1/4 c sugar
1 T baking powder
1 t baking soda
1/2 t salt
4 T unsalted butter
2 T caraway seeds
1 c raisins
1 c buttermilk
1 egg

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 400º. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, soda, and salt. Stir well. Add the butter and rub in until the butter disappears in the dry ingredients. Stir in the caraway seeds and the raisins. Whisk the buttermilk and egg together and mix into the dough mixture. Turn the dough out on a floured surface and fold it over several times, shaping it into a round loaf. Transfer this to a pan covered with foil. Cut a cross in the top. (This lets the fairies escape.) Bake for 15 minutes then reduce heat to 350º and cook for about 15 to 20 minutes more until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool and serve with butter.
