1 stick butter,1/2 cup oil, 4 T. cocoa, 1 c. water.

2 c. flour, 2 c. sugar.

1/2 c. buttermilk, 2 eggs, 1 tsp. soda, 1 tsp. vanilla.

Frosting ingredients: 1 stick butter, 4 T. cocoa, 1/3 c. buttermilk, 1 lb. confectioner's sugar, 1/2 tsp. salt, 1 tsp. vanilla, 1 c. chopped pecans.

Preheat oven to 400º. Put first 4 ingredients in saucepan and bring to a boil. Sift flour and sugar together and then pour saucepan ingredients on top and mix well. Then add last 4 ingredients. Pour into a greased jelly roll pan and bake for 20 minutes. While cake is hot, frost it!!

To make frosting: Bring butter, cocoa, buttermilk, to boil then remove from heat. Add rest of ingredients. Frost. When cake has cooled, cut it into squares, then remove it from pan.

This is an old "Down East" recipe that my Grandmother Atwood made. It is very rich and worth every calorie!!
