2 tbsp butter or margarine, softened
7 slices white bread
2 c cooked ham, cooked sausage,

or crisp-cooked bacon, chopped
2 c shredded cheddar cheese (8 oz)
3 c milk
6 eggs, beaten
1 tsp dry mustard
1/4 tsp pepper
Salt to taste

Grease 2 qt rectangular baking dish. Spread one side of bread slices with butter. Cut into 1/2 inch cubes. Arrange evenly in dish. Arrange meat evenly over cubes. Sprinkle with 1 cup of the cheese. In a medium bowl, combine milk, eggs, mustard, and pepper. Pour over meat mixture. Cover and refrigerate at least 8 hours, or overnight. Uncover and bake at 350º for 35 minutes. Sprinkle with remaining cheese. Bake 10 minutes more, or until center is set, or thermometer inserted in center registers 160º. Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.
