The Ianzitos and Morcones enjoyed a special type of Manhattan -- sweet and smooth, with their special ingedient: what they called "cherry juice."

Although this may or may not be the "official" recipe (if one existed), I made these for my parents for years and never received a complaint.

That said, the ingredients follow:

1 Part Canadian Whisky
1 Part Sweet Vermouth
1/4 Part Cherry "Juice" (Liquid from Maraschino Cherry Bottle or Grenadine)
Stemmed Maraschino Cherry for Garnish

Directions:
Directions:
The Morcone-Ianzito clan would drink these in large quantities, so every fridge would contain at least one glass decanter of the cocktail.

Directions:
Mix first three ingredients. Refrigerate until ice cold. Serve in a Manhattan glass garnished with red cherry.

Personal Notes:
This was, I believe, the first "adult beverage" I ever experienced. Reason? According to my late father, Sam Ianzito, I was attracted by the cherry in the Manhattan glass and would, unbeknowst to friends and relatives, scarf down whatever liquid remained to get to the cherry. Results were two-fold:
1. I would be found sound asleep somewhere on the floor at Fells Avenue.

2. Befuddled relatives would simply not understand when or how they downed their own drinks so quickly...
