1/2 c shortening
1 1/2 c sugar
2 eggs, beaten
2 T cocoa
2 oz red food coloring
1 t vanilla
2 1/4 c flour
1 t salt
1 c buttermilk
1 1/2 t baking soda
1 t vinegar

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening and sugar together. Add eggs, cocoa, food coloring and vanilla; mix well. Stir in mixture of flour and salt alternately with buttermilk. Mix soda and vinegar, quickly stir into cake while still foaming. Pour into two 8 inch pans. Bake at 350º for 25-23 minutes

Frosting
5 1/2 T flour
1 c milk
1 c butter
1 c sugar
1 t vanilla

Combine flour and milk. Cook until thickened over low heat. Cool. Add butter, sugar and vanilla. Beat well.
