3/4 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
3 eggs
1 3/4 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. cinnamon
2 T. cocoa
3/4 c. sour milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. lemon extract
1/2 c. coarsely cut up nuts
1/2 tsp. baking powder

6 T. butter
1 egg yolk
3 c. confectioners sugar
1 1/2 T. cocoa
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 1/2 T. hot coffee

Cream shortening - add sugar gradually and cream thoroughly.
Blend in the 3 well beaten eggs.
Sift dry ingredients together and add to creamed mixture alternately with the sour milk.
Blend in flavoring and nuts.
Pour into well greased and floured layer cake pans.
Bake at 350 for 30 minutes.
