1 pkg. yeast
1/4 c. warm water
2 Tbls sugar

1 c. scalded milk
2 Tbls shortening
1 t. salt
1 egg
3 1/2 c. flour

1/4 c. melted butter
1/2 c. sugar
1 1/2 t. cinnamon

Directions:
Directions:
Add sugar and yeast to the warm water (110 degrees).

Combine scalded milk, shortening, salt, cool to lukewarm.
Add 1 cup flour, softened yeast and egg. Beat well.
Slowly add remaining flour to form soft dough -beat well.

Cover and let rise in warm place (82 degrees) until double in size. 1 1/2 to 2 hours.

Punch down and knead on floured pastry cloth until not sticky.

Roll to 16 x 8" rectangle.

Spread dough with melted butter and sprinkle with sugar cinnamon.

Roll in the long direction and cut into 1 inch slices.

Place rolls in greased 9x13 pan.

Cover and let rise, 30-40 minutes.

Bake at 375 degrees for 20-25 minutes.

Let cool and frost with confectioner's frosting.

This is grandma's sweet dough and is used for cinnamon rolls, sweet rolls, maple bars, and doughnuts. All the kids and grandchildren remember sweet rolls for breakfast warmed up in the electric skillet with foil!
