Directions:Mix the ingredients in the order listed. Roll dough into cylinder-shaped form, similar to the cardboard in the center of a roll of paper towels. Refrigerate. When chilled, slice cookies from cylinder (about 1/4 inch thick). Sprinkle sugar on each cookie; if you like, sprinkle with cinnamon (Gram usually added cinnamon). Bake. (This is where something about the recipe was lost. Gram didn't give me an oven temp or an amount of time for baking. I've used 375º and watched the cookies until they brown slightly on the edges. You may need to experiment with your own oven.) |

Notes: I'm providing this recipe from my grandmother because it's part of our family's heritage. I always looked forward to going to visit Gram in Glasgow, MO, because she usually baked a batch of these cookies for us. The directions are a bit vague, because I fixed the cookies when Jennifer and Andrew were young children. I don't recall the number of cookies, preparation time, or cooking time. Mostly I remember loving to eat these sugar cookies.
