1 1/2 cups sifted flour
1 tsp soda
1 tsp ground ginger
1/4 tsp salt
1/3 cup vegetable shortening
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg
1/2 cup light molasses
3/4 cup boiling water

Directions:
Directions:
Sift together the flour, baking powder, soda, ginger, and salt.
Cream the shortening until light and fluffy in a large bowl. Add sugar gradually beating well. Beat in eggs thoroughly. Blend in molasses. Gradually sift dry ingredients into the creamed mixture. Beat well, then stir in the water. Put into a greased and floured 8 inch square pan. Bake at 350º for 40 minutes. Cool in pan for 10 minutes.
