2 1/4 cups flour
1 1/4 cups brown sugar
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon baking soda
/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon allspice
1 cup buttermilk
2/3 cup shortening
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 eggs
1 cup chopped pecans

1/2 cup butter
1 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup milk
3 cups powdered sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Heat oven to 350. Grease bottom only of 13 x 9 baking dish.

In large bowl, beat all cake ingredients except nuts. Stir in nuts. Spread batter evenly in pan.

Bake 40-45 minutes or until top springs back when touched in center. Cool completely, about 1 hour.

In 2 quart saucepan, melt butter. Stir in brown sugar. Cook over low heat 2 minutes, stirring constantly. Add milk; cook until mixture comes to a rolling boil. Remove from heat. Beat in powdered sugar and vanilla until smooth. Spread over cooled cake.
