Grandma Goldie Walker's Spice Cake Recipe

2 c. sugar
1 c. butter
3 egg yolks, beaten
3 egg whites, beaten stiff
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. baking soda
3 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. allspice
1/2 tsp. ground cloves

Preheat oven to 375.

Sift dry ingredients except sugar and baking soda and set aside. Beat butter and sugar until fluffy, add egg yolks. Mix baking soda into buttermilk and add to butter mixture. Beat in flour mixture.
Fold in egg whites.

Pour into prepared (greased and floured) 13x9x2 pan and bake for 35 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.

Frost with Brown Sugar Icing.
