2 c flour, sifted
3 t baking powder
1 t salt
1/3 c shortening
3/4 c milk

Directions:
Directions:
Sift flour, baking powder, and salt together. Cut in shortening until resembles coarse cornmeal. Add all of milk and mix to smooth dough. Turn out on a lightly floured board. Knead lightly. Roll or pat to 1/2 inch thick. Cut with biscuit cutter. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake in very hot oven at 450º for 12 to 15 minutes.

To make shortbread: Use same recipe but increase shortening to 1/2 c and add 1 T sugar. You can also use this same recipe for dumplings.
